Dear members,

Well, since my last newsletter we have gone from winter straight into a heatwave and drought scenario. The greens have recovered fantastically well and the goal from now until the next planned aeration in week 29 is to have them continue to play as firm and true as possible.

As always it was great to meet so many of our new members of the tour of our facilities. It is so great to be able to meet you personally and to explain how the operations of our course maintenance team works along with the significant annual costs to purchase, service and maintain such a vast amount of machinery.

By the end of this coming week all of our new additional seasonal recruits will be on board and training has already begun.

With the dry weather we have experienced and are forecast for the weeks ahead water availability is once again a challenge and as such green will have priority over the tees and approaches.

Last week the high rough was cut again, we will continue to monitor how this performs moving forward.

We are all caught up with the strimming around trees and just have C-Loop fairway bunkers to go.

On Monday 28th June construction of the new Pétanque Courts will take place, these will be situated next to the Starter House and trolley parking area. The purpose of this installation is to add to the fun, social atmosphere Simon’s is known for.

During week 25 all hedges in the parking area and around the Clubhouse and Hotel will be trimmed, this will be repeated in late August as always.

All in all we have caught up fantastically well and are well on the way towards an amazing season.

Kind regards

Reamonn O’Neill
Golf Course Superintendent
