The Qualifying Tournament, 30th April – 1st May, for 5 places in the Staysure Tour event, Shipco Masters, at Simon’s Golf Club has a strong line up. The Staysure Tour is for male players over 50.

More than 100 players from 10 nations have entered hoping to gain a place in the main event and play for the €350,000 prize fund and the €40,000 first prize.

Shipco Masters General Manager, Henrik Bergqvist, said: ”As it is very difficult both to get on the tour and to maintain your place, we have experienced a great interest in the Qualifier. Several players have told us how happy they are to get this chance and wish there were more tournaments on the tour that would create an opportunity like this one.”

The strong line up is led by former European Tour players and Staysure Tour members. The latter having a category that doesn’t automatically secure them a place in the exclusive field. Among others we can mention, Gary Wolstenholme, a three time winner on the Staysure Tour, Jonathan Cheetham, a tour regular,  Jeff Hall and Mark Wharton, a +4 hcp. In all 25 players from the British Isles, 11 from Sweden and players from Canada, USA, Germany, Austria and Norway. Many Danish players are considered as having a good chance i.e. Jacob Rasmussen, Bjørn Nørgaard, Lars Honoré and Peter Jeppesen. And it would help the Danish presence as at the moment only Steen Tinning and local pro, Lars Løgstrup, are part of the field in the main event. Lars Løgstrup on a sponsors invitation.

The Qualifier is played over 36 holes on the B and C loops of Simon’s Golf Club, measuring just under 6.000 meters. It is apart from two holes identical with the tournament course for the Shipco Masters. The starting list for the 2nd round relies on the result for the first round so the best players will play last. In case of a tie for 5th place there will be a play off immediately after play has commenced.
