WOOSNAM CONFIRMS DANISH ‘HOMECOMING’
FOR INAUGURAL SHIPCO MASTERS AT SIMON’S GOLF CLUB

Former World Number One Ian Woosnam will return to Denmark in 2018 for the inaugural Shipco Masters
promoted by Simon’s Golf Club, the same course which he opened 24 years ago.

The 1991 Masters Tournament champion and 2008 Ryder Cup Captain will tee it up in the European Senior
Tour’s first event to be held in Denmark in over 10 years, in celebration of the golf club’s 25th anniversary from
1st – 3rd June 2018.

The Welshman, a 29-time European Tour winner and five-time winner on the Senior Tour, hit the first ball at
the opening of Simon’s Golf Club’s championship course in May 1993.

“To strike the first ever shot at a golf club is always an honour,” said Woosnam. “So to have the opportunity to
return to Simon’s Golf Club for a European Senior Tour tournament is something I am really looking forward to”.

“It is a superb facility, and I’m interested to see how the course will be set-up during the tournament week.”
Simon’s Golf Club, near Copenhagen, is home to a 27-hole golf course split into three loops of nine holes,
designed by Martin Hawtree. A composite routing, incorporating holes from each of the three loops, will be
used for the tournament.

Having hosted the European Challenge Tour, European Tour and European Ladies Tour in the 1990s and
2000s, founder of Simon’s Golf Club, Arne Simonsen, is delighted to welcome Woosnam and fellow Senior
Tour stars to Denmark next year.

“We started this journey almost 30 years ago and we are very excited to welcome Ian back to Simon’s Golf Club
next year as part of our week long 25th Anniversary celebrations,” said Simonsen. “He is one of the most recognisable
names in the world of golf and we are delighted that Ian will return to mark the next chapter of our history.

“This is one of a number of star player announcements we hope to make over the coming months in preparation
for the first edition of the Shipco Masters.”

David MacLaren, Head of the European Senior Tour, added: “We are delighted to confirm the first event of the
2018 Senior Tour International Schedule, and are equally excited to announce our return to Denmark for the
inaugural Shipco Masters.

“The team at Simon’s Golf Club will be excellent hosts and we are all looking forward to seeing our members
tee it up at their wonderful facility.”
