Rain and wind played its part in a dramatic final round for 5 places in the Shipco Masters when it was held at Simon’s Golf Club on Tuesday 1st May. The weather tested all the players, but some had more challenges than others, David Ray’s golf bag was blown into the water on the par 3, 16th hole. James Murphy received  three penalty strokes from the 1st round when it appeared that he unknowingly had incurred a penalty shot.. When the scorecards were handed over, there were two extra strokes and he lost the round and 5th place by only one stroke.

Peter Scott played a nice last round and was early on in a good position, which he held all the way. With only one over par he won the qualification by 4 strokes. “It was tough out there, the conditions were the worst I´ve played in a very long time. The course was fantastic and was in great condition. This is a magnificent golf course. Great praise for holding a qualifying tournament, something we all appreciate! ” Said Peter Scott.

Peter Wilson, Søren Telling and Mark Wharton turned in rounds respectively of 4, 4 and 6 over par, and secured the next three places.

The final place was shared by four players, which was decided by a play-off. On the first hole, Steve Cipa dropped out with a bogey. The 2nd hole was halved when all three made par. Nicholas Mitchell scored a birdie on the third hole and secured a place in Shipco Masters. Claude Grenier from Austria got a par and became the first reserve, should any of the leaders drop out. Zeke Martines from the USA went into the water and took a bogey.

Søren Telling became the only Dane among the five: “It was a great experience to play the qualifier and I’m very happy that I did so well under these difficult circumstances. I’m really looking forward to playing in the Shipco Masters. I can’t believe I made it! “.
